US ISPs Agree To Step Up Fight Against Online Child Porn

US ISPs Agree To Step Up Fight Against Online Child Porn
  • Digg del.icio.us reddit Facebook
Verizon, Sprint and Time Warner Cable have agreed to proactively block access to child pornography and to donate about $1 million for supporting the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

The companies have agreed to block access to the images by removing them from the web servers after some initial reluctance to do so.

Experts say that controlling porn images by prosecuting each user is a tedious and slow process and that blocking the means of distribution is a better idea.

According to the providers' pact, the ISPs will donate a sum of $1 million to a fund which aims at removing child pornography from the web circulated by the user groups and newsgroups in the past.

The telecommunication firms said that the offending sites were shut down by them as soon as they were approached by the authorities.

An investigation of the child porn sites will follow the agreements that will influence offenders nationwide.
